Magick has existed as long as humanity. Since our brains were developed to the degree to make sense of the world, we have imagined ways to interact with, and control our environment. Magickal practices have shaped our cultures, inspired religions, and have helped generations cope with the harsh realities of life. Major religions have always had an antagonistic approach to Magick; and thus most of the pagan Magickal traditions of Europe have been persecuted by Christianity. Yet, they have survived in esoteric, occult and Witchy corners of history.
By the end of the 19th century, scholars, occultists, and intellectuals of Europe began reviving these practices, and among them the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was the most influential. Their impact on the field of Magick was so far-reaching that almost all the literature today is in one shape or another a continuation of their Work. One of the key Rituals of their Magickal system was the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, which was a reimagination of Casting a Magick Circle.
In this workshop, we’ll break down the history, structure, and purpose of this ritual and work through its stages together step-by-step. By the end, you'll have a powerful tool to incorporate into your daily practice, grounded in the core principles of European Magick.
